INTRO: Story “the most miserable man on earth.”
TIME OF TROUBLE
- Read Daniel 12:1 – Note it says “at that time” – the time of the end. What is the Time of Trouble? – Go to: Jeremiah 30:7.
- Go to: Genesis 32:24-30 – Twenty years earlier betrayed his brother, later slaved for his wife.
- NIGHT OF WRESTLING: In his most miserable state… a MAN APPEARS!
- Who was this man? – Verse 30 “God” – “No man hath seen God” (John 1:18, 1 John 4:12) Hosea 12:4 – “the Angel.”
- Back to Daniel 12:1 – What Angel will be present during our “time of trouble?” – MICHAEL.
MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
- Begin at Jude 1:9 and compare with Zechariah 3:2. Who actually rebukes Satan? “The Lord.”
- Back to Jude 1:9 – SLIDE: Meaning of “Archangel” – compare with 1 Thessalonians 4:16.
- It is Jesus’ voice that raises the dead – see: John 5:25, 28-29.
- Further proof: Daniel 12:1 – “And many of them that sleep in the dust of the earth shall awake…”
- Does this mean Jesus is a created angel? NO!
- SLIDE: Meaning of “Michael” – “Who is like God?” – proves he is not a created Being – Jesus = God (Col. 1:16, Heb.1:8)
- (to audience) Let’s answer the question: Who is like God? JESUS! SLIDE.
- Daniel 3:15 (who is that God that shall deliver you?) Verse 25 (the “Son of God”) Verse 28 (God… sent his “angel.”)
- SLIDES: “Angel of the Lord” is “God.” – By the way, Where else have you read about removing shoes from holy ground?
- Joshua 5:13-15 – Host = Angels (Psalm 148:2)
- REMOVE OBJECTION: Daniel 10:13 – Context mentions two princes – “one” can be translated “first” as well – SLIDE
- SLIDE: Daniel 12:1 says he is the GREATEST of all Princes!
- THINK OF THE MIGHT OF THE ANGELS HE LEADS:
- One angel destroyed 185,000 Assyrians soldiers in one night (2 Kings 19:35.)
- One angel destroyed every firstborn of man and beast in the entire nation of Egypt (Exodus 12)
- Jesus prayed for 12 legions of angels! (Matthew 26:53) – 6,000 per legion = 72,000 angels!
OUR OWN PERSONAL “TIME OF TROUBLE”
- Not let’s go back to Daniel 12:1 – We will have our own personal “Time of Trouble.”
- Read verse 44 of the previous chapter – “he shall… destroy and utterly take away many” – like Esau’s anger
- REMEMBER: This is in the last days – “time of the end” – Daniel 12:4 – Proof: “to and fro, and knowledge shall increase.”
- Same phrase “Time of Trouble” in Jeremiah 30:5-7 – What was it like for them?
CONCLUSION:
- Back to Jacob’s Time of Trouble – Genesis 32:7, 9-12
- Jacob – God’s Formula when feeling AFRAID and DISTRESSED (verse 7):
- Remind God of his Promise – Verse 9
- Confess your Sins – Verse 10
- PLEAD for Salvation – Verse 11
- Remind God of his Promise AGAIN – Verse 12
- HOLD ON TIGHT! – Verses 25-26
- When he did this, MICHAEL CAME – When you do this, MICHAEL WILL COME! – HE WILL WRESTLE WITH YOU!
- FINAL VERSE ON SLIDE: Psalm 22:9 – JESUS WAS MORE MISERABLE THAN JACOB, JOB, ANYONE AND YET “HOPED”
- Story of little sister who donated her blood and thought she’d die.
