EMAIL EXCHANGES WITH MYLES KETELSON OF ANSWERING ADVENTISM
Exposed by Edwin M. Cotto, Advent Defense League

THIS ARTICLE UNDER CONSTRUCTION AND MAY BE UPDATED AT ANY MOMENT. PLEASE COME BACK OFTEN.

Serving the Lord through the Advent Defense League since 2008 has been quite the challenge. I have encountered various types of opposition and challenges from critics and detractors far too many to document on a single post. However, these attacks have only strengthened my resolve to continue spreading the truth and sharing the love of God. At times, however, we are called to aggressively counter those attacks and make it publicly known so that others can receive it as warnings about the true character of the critics. This is what I will be doing with this post.
HOW IT ALL STARTED

A few years ago I commented on an anti-SDA video on Facebook and of the many critics that were there supporting its contents, one of them was Myles Ketelson. After a debate debacle between him and I, Myles promises to go large with his exposition on Seventh-day Adventism and no sooner then this, his YouTube channel Answering Adventism is born (not that I am attributing his channel to any influence of my own, however). Within the comments Myles offers an official debate, and promises to email me so we can set it up. What you will read here is the full discussion that took place in email. I have purposely posted each email as screenshots to avoid the accusation that I have manipulated any contents.

WHY SHOULD I MAKE THESE EMAILS PUBLIC?

I wanted to show the world these email exchanges before Myles does it on an upcoming YouTube video where he plans on doing the same. After his video airs I will return here to make any necessary updates. Myles has a history of manipulating the narrative (as you can see in our video responses to him on our YouTube channel). So it was important to put it here as well. We will be responding to Myles’ video after his airs. But did you notice his video is pre-recorded? Not live, as when he responds to other SDA apologists and evangelists. One wonders why.

A WORD ABOUT THIS EMAIL EXCHANGE

You will note that I have posted screenshots of the emails to prevent being accused of manipulating its contents. In my inbox I could not find any more email exchanges than what you will see below. As I keep searching, if I find more I will post them here. Meanwhile, I will be making some brief explanatory comments in between each of the emails posted so far. Enjoy.

FIRST EMAIL – FROM MYLES

Nothing special in this first email except that I’d note where he first wrote, “I’m happy to debate any point of Adventist theology.” This gave me the opportunity to offer up a list of additional topics we could consider until we narrow down to one we can both agree upon. I did not, however, feel comfortable doing the debate on his channel as he suggested, and that I can only reproduce it on my channel. So you’ll read in my follow up replies the suggestion to find a neutral moderator for the both of us. Its only fair.

SECOND EMAIL – REPLY FROM EDWIN

It’s true, I had to deal with a few things and, unfortunately, Myles and critics in general are not on what I call my “top 10.” Nevertheless, I was able to make the time soon. Let’s see how Myles responds.

THIRD EMAIL – FOLLOW UP FROM EDWIN

FOURTH EMAIL – REPLY FROM MYLES

I would note here that Myles’ “I’m a sabbatarian” comment gave me, at first, the impression that he was still a “seventh day” sabbatarian. He wasn’t, though. This became known later on as he began producing videos explaining that he was a first-day sabbatarian actually. The reader can take that as they may, but I feel it wasn’t very honest of him to not reveal that important detail. I would have LOVED to debate first-day sabbatarianism, but I did not know that was what he meant.

You will now read my response to his email after being severely disappointed with his behavior during his debate with another SDA apologist. Watch how he gets triggered by this:

FIFTH EMAIL – REPLY FROM EDWIN

Having watched his debate with an SDA apologist named Keith Bowmen, it cemented in my mind the importance of definitely NOT having this debate on his platform where he will have full control, or to even have any debate in the first place. But I still felt the necessity to do it, so I went ahead and offered a proposition. That proposition was based on the verses on his logo, Hebrews 6:19-20, which he and other critics use to claim Jesus by-passed fulfilling the Holy Place type before fulfilling the Most Holy Place type of the earthly Sanctuary. If that was the foundation of his ministry, I wanted to especially debate that. But you will see in his follow up email that it was my first paragraph that triggered him and caused him to CANCEL the entire debate idea (please be patient as his reply was very long and I had to post it in five parts).

SIXTH EMAIL – REPLY FROM MYLES

Ufff, that was a lot. And quite self-explanatory. We can probably boil all that stuff into one thing: he canceled the debate. I will say though, I take no responsibility for what others say about Myles in my ADL Facebook group. I only take responsibility for what I say or write. Yes, I have written some hard things, and sometimes I am not particularly nice. But you will never find me insulting critics. I will never call critics clowns, nutcases, and so on, as Myles and others have done to me. You will probably find critics like Myles taking something I wrote figuratively and try to make me out to be some kind of monster. I am not too worried about that. I trust that the honest individual will be able to read between the lines.

Let’s see my reply:

SEVENTH EMAIL – REPLY FROM EDWIN

Fine! I admit I wasn’t the nicest here, but I still left all the insulting to come from the opponent’s side. I’ll leave it to the readers to decide.

SECOND INVITATION TO DEBATE

Note that those email exchanges took places in 2022. A few months later between July and August of 2023, Myles and his partner Chris Tucker got into a little comments debate on Facebook with Jason Thomas, one of ADLs instructors, and they invited ADL to watch an upcoming video by Myles and set up a debate. Jason agreed to notify me of this and send Myles an email to set it up. I was excited! Finally! Myles will have this debate after having canceled his initial invitation a few months prior. Here are a few screenshots of the conversation that took place. You’ll notice I circled the portions where they are making the invitation, and underlined the portion where Jason promised that ADL would send Myles that email:

Click here to see the video he is referring to (its quite easy to refute to be honest, but I digress). Of course, I go ahead and send Myles the email telling him I am aware of his invitation and I accept his proposal to debate the topic of his video. Here’s my email:

SECOND INVITATION TO DEBATE – FROM EDWIN

This email was sent on August 5th, 2023. I searched and search in all my inboxes to see if a replay ever came in. It never did. As I write this we are in April 21, 2024, about 9 months and still no reply. Why Myles’ would invite me for a second time to debate and then totally ignore my email is beyond me. But I wish he didn’t waste my time.

Could there be another email floating around in cyber space I can’t find? Maybe. But again, I am not particularly worried about what I wrote. That said, let’s see what Myles has to say and I will return here for an update. I will also create a video update as well, but unlike Myles who did not do his live, I will. And Myles will be invited to join and defend himself.
